Default I think I'm doing something wrong

Hello. I am a R/Mo. I would like some help on my build.

I am wondering if I am doing anything massively wrong with my attribute allocations and my skill build.

When i Hench, Healer Hench always dies easily. Is there anyway i can remedy this.

I am wearing LA armer and wielding a max damage flatbow.

These are my Attributes.

Expertise 8
Wilderness Survival 8
Marksmanship 8 + 1

The following is my Skill Bar.

[troll unguent][ignite arrows][hunter's shot][penetrating attack][power shot][dual shot][symbol of wrath][resurrect]

I'm certain that the reason your Healer Hench dies so easily is because you're over aggroing, or not dealing enough damage. Your marksmanship should be higher, don't bring Symbol, and you have two preparations (only one can be used at a time). Try calling targets for your henchmen and review your choice of henchmen. If you need more damage, take the mage henchman, if you need more defense, maybe add the melee henchmen or a second monk if available (the lowered damage caused by them fleeing is minimal in low end proph, other henchmen also suck, and melee hench attacking casters causes fleeing).

at first glance it looked like [dual shot] was [read the wind] for me, so maybe he got confused, anyways...

Yea, you need only 1 preperation, don't bother with smiting skills, focus on spreading conditions and interrupting. Also try to balance your team with attack/defense/healing.

Yep, sorry for misunderstanding. You may want to drop an attack for something and increase marks though. I think you could maintain damage with fewer attack skills.

How about [distracting shot]. Many people say it is good. I only have prophecies and factions.

You should add a interupt skill, it greatly helps you and your team take out [symbol of wrath] and add an interupt [Distracting Shot] or [savage shot]

I was always told that a basic ranger bar is made up of three attack skills, d-shot, a preperation, a defense skill, troll, and a rez.

Try something like this:

[hunters shot][point blank shot][dual shot][distracting shot][ignite arrows][throw dirt][troll unguent][resurrect]

Fire a shot, then do Hunter's to try and catch the mob moving, the Point Blank once they reach you. Dual Shot with Ignite makes for a nice packet of damage on grouped up mobs. D-shot what you can, Throw Dirt when you're in trouble.

It might even be better for you to get a req 7 bow from a [collector] around there, so you can drop Marksmanship down a notch to bring up Wilderness Survival for the extra Ignite damage.

All the skills should be available to you. Throw dirt is a quest reward in the Lion's Arch area.

Now; why do you only have +1 to marksmanship? You should be wearing +1 head armor with a +1 rune in it. Go drop the gold and buy one, it's worth it.

When you attack something, hold left control and hit the number key or spacebar. This'll call your target, and your henchies will swarm that one thing. Wait until it is dead before switching up, and re-call on the next.

I think you can bring two warrior henchies out of LA, and that's what I always did. More warm melee bodies between the mobs and me and my monk.

And be sure to not move while fighting with henchies, this makes them break contact and 'run away' with you, even if you are repositioning yourself.

There are better Rez's than ressurect, but, eh, just having a Rez is a good start, lot's of dopes still don't carry one.

Expertise has a solid break point for skills @ 9, so your gimpng yourself a tad at 8, add yourself a minor Expertise rune somewhares on your armor. In fact adding a minor Wilderness won't hurt either, then you don't have to reduce Marksman ship like mrbilzor suggests.

Read the Stickied Thread at the top of this forum about Ranger basics for some more tips.

This is a very good place to start from. Although I think I'd say:

1-2 attack skills
1-2 interrupt skills
1 utility skill
1 defense skill
prep
troll
rez

Distracting shot is a skill that you should quickly become familiar with, as it should be in just about any Ranger bar.

Wouldn't you class interruption skills as utility?

As for Trolls and a defense skill, I would call them totally optional for PvE. Aswell as changing "prep" to "prep / Barrage / Volley".

Interruption is a role not a utility! :P

Utility as in 'something else that also makes you useful when you aren't interrupting.'

i find [skill]apply poison[/skill] to be an appropriate and effective example of your definition of utility. as an added bonus, it also happens to fulfill the preparation requirement on a bow rangers bar, offering bar compression and the opportunity to create a ranger build with exceptional versatility.

I find [skill]Apply Poison[/skill] to be an appropriate and effective example of your definition of a Prepatraion.

I find a "utility" to be skills like:
[skill]Throw Dirt[/skill]
[skill]Debilitating Shot[/skill]
[skill]Pin Down[/skill]
[skill]Mending Touch[/skill]
[skill]Antidote Signet[/skill]
Or one of those imba PvE only skills (for PvE)

Typically your "utility" skill is one from your secondary Proffesion if your useing one, something to aide the team or self preservation (not sefl heal) to relieve Monk Presure. If you can remove your own blind with ease, you should, the Monk SHOULD be busy keeping people alive anyway.

am i the only one who is suggesting an elite skill?
get one asap, you should be in the desert soon if i'm judging where you're at in the game properly.
i also suggest bringine some kind of defense skill to ease the burden on your healer hench. [skill]antidote signet[/skill] or [skill]lightning reflexes[/skill] are good ones.
